Left-sided defender in second season at Vale Park after joining in the summer of 2021, following spell with Salford City.

With a National League title to his name with Barrow, Jones continued his upwards trajectory by earning promotion to League One with Vale in his debut campaign at Vale Park.

Jones made 26 appearances in all competitions for Darrell Clarke’s side in 2021/22, claiming his first assist when he crossed for Devante Rodney to open the scoring at Stevenage in August.

A graduate of Hartlepool United’s Academy, Jones was handed his league debut by Pools as a 19-year-old in March 2014, and went on to play 41 first team matches before joining Grimsby Town in the summer of 2016.

A fragmented year with the Mariners including two loan spells, first at Gateshead in the National League and then at AFC Fylde in the National League North, before he left Blundell Park for Barrow, having made five first team appearances for Grimsby.

In two seasons with Barrow, Jones accumulated 78 appearances and earned a place in the National League Team of the Year, with his performances helping the Bluebirds to initially secure their place in the National League and then stabilise in the 2018/19 season.

A move back into the EFL with Salford City followed, though first team opportunities were limited at the Peninsula Stadium and Jones returned to Barrow on loan to help his former club achieve promotion to the EFL for the first time since 1972, in the COVID-disrupted 2019/20 campaign.

After returning to Salford post-COVID, Jones’ first team opportunities remained limited and he spent a brief spell on loan at Harrogate Town in the latter stages of 2020 in the Yorkshire side’s debut EFL season. He then helped Harrogate to win the 2019/20 FA Trophy, with the final played a year later due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Jones’ loan spell coinciding with the rearranged final that Town won 3-1 at Wembley Stadium.

Now in his second campaign at Vale Park, Jones passed 200 senior career appearances in Vale’s 2-0 win at Burton Albion in August.
