Self confessed 'fan' looking forward to Saturday
One person at Vale Park who is probably looking forward to Saturday’s game at Molineux more than anybody is Vale Assistant Manager Mark Grew – a self-confessed Wolves fan.
He may have black and amber in the blood, but on Saturday all he want to do is see Vale take maximum points back home with them, even if it does upset a few of his friends.
Grew said: “I was born there and I followed them all of my life, so it’s great. I loved going back and playing against hem and I love going back as Assistant Manager and I have been back a few times.
“You want them to get promoted, but I would love to go there and get three points and upset a few of my mates.
“Molineux has changed quite a bit over the years, the old North Bank has gone where I used to stand, but it is still a great place to play football.
“I have been there three or four times this season and I think teams have gone there and shown them far too much respect and laid off them.
“Wolves haven’t been 'top binners' like I thought they would but they have got the results and we have got to go there in a positive frame of mind and try and get here points.
“”I always remember going there and I think we got beat 5-1 in a Trophy game and we went there in the league and John Rudge said, ‘right, we are not going to push up, we are going to go deep so Bully couldn’t go up the top with much’.
“We won the game two-nil, so it is possible to win there. You have got to go there and be positive because if you go there and try and defend for ninety minutes it just won’t happen.”
Grew hopes the trouble seen at Vale Park following the game when Wolves were the visitors back in August will not be repeated.
He said: “With the ill feeling that happened after the game here against Wolves, I just hope that people are sensible and react in the right way and go for the football, rather than to cause trouble.
“I thought those days were gone, but you still get the small element that want to cause problems, but the majority of our away fans are superb.”
