Port Vale FC Academy on the lookout for host families

15 April 2024

Port Vale Academy are looking for host families who can provide a warm and welcoming environment for our young players, aged between 16 and 18, who need to live away from home to undertake their football training and education at the club.

We are looking for families, couples or individuals who can offer a ‘home away from home’ for our players to integrate them into family life and help them grow as individuals during their time within the home.

We are looking for local households with a private bedroom for each player and a bathroom with a working lock. Access to public transport and local amenities is desirable. Hosts will provide accommodation for six nights of the week during the football season (Sunday-Saturday). However, we are also looking for short-term hosts, who could provide shorter more irregular stays, such as holiday cover or to help with train cancellations.

Host families will be required to guide young players by teaching them basic independent living skills such as washing, cooking, and booking appointments. You will also be required to provide meals for players, with guidance from our club nutritionist.

This is a rewarding role, and you can make a real positive impact on the lives and development of our young players. In return, the club will provide regular training around important topics such as mental health awareness and safeguarding will be on hand to support you throughout your duration as a host.

If you are interested, please contact our Academy Player Care Lead at megan.walters@port-vale.co.uk. We will then be able to share more information about the role and responsibilities and check for suitability.
